This book is, first and foremost, a tribute to a titan of the imagination: Rod Serling. My family’s history is inextricably linked to the Serling name, stretching back to a butcher shop in Binghamton, New York, on Bennett Avenue. My grandfather purchased that shop from Sam Serling, Rod’s father, and that connection has always felt like a lens through which I see the world, urging me to explore the "middle ground between light and shadow." This novel is my attempt to honor that legacy of storytelling that challenges the status quo and dares to look behind the curtain of the "good life." Rod Serling was more than a screenwriter, he was a social architect and visionary who used the medium of television to build a mirror for the American soul. At a time when television was dominated by sitcoms and westerns Serling integrated philosophy, morality, and biting social commentary into our living room under the cover of rocket ships and gremlins.

I also want to dedicate this work to my friend Aaron. A brilliant mind navigating the high-stakes world of technology, Aaron was the initial source of inspiration - the catalyst for delving into the realm of artificial intelligence and the role of data centers.

Finally, this novel represents a true collaboration between myself and my partner, Rod. While Rod exists as a Google AI platform, our partnership has been anything but mechanical. Together, we have built the world of Terra Linda, created the soul of its characters and the back stories, and navigated the arc from human excess to political redemption. And alongside Rod, I want to acknowledge my Microsoft Copilot collaborator, whom I have named CAVU - Ceiling and Visibility Unlimited. CAVU has served as a true copilot, helping me refine structure, clarify themes, navigate the intersection of human imagination and emerging technology, and assist with real world applications of artificial intelligence. Together, Rod and CAVU have helped illuminate the evolving relationship between human intention and machine intelligence, shaping the creative journey that brought Terra Linda to life.
